Ingredients

White Sage, Salvia apiana, is a healing plant used in Native American and Earth-based cultures since ancient times. It is symbolic of cleanliness and purity. Sage is a stimulant for the nervous system, metabolism, and vital energy centers. It purifies the mind and whole being, and its cleansing qualities are uplifting to our spirit.

Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, comes from the Pacific Northwest and, like sage, it is used for purification. It banishes negative energy and brings in good influences. The spirit of cedar is held as very ancient and wise by the Pacific Northwest tribes. The old, downed cedar trees are always honored with offerings and prayers.

Palo Santo, Bursera graveolens, means ‘Holy Wood.’ It has been used for thousands of years in Ecuador and Peru by shamans, curanderos and healers in their ceremonies. The tree lives for 80 to 90 years. When it dies, it remains in its habitat for 4 to 10 years and then begins its metamorphosis. The alchemical transformation gives birth to Palo Santo’s mystical and medicinal properties. Like sage, juniper, and cedar, it removes negative energy, offers protection, uplifts the spirit, and brings good influences.

Juniper, Juniperus communis is used by indigenous cultures around the world in many ceremonies. It has the power to disperse and cleanse. Since ancient times it has been used for spiritual purification. In many cultures, it is revered and used to create a safe and sacred environment.

Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis, was burnt as ritual incense in ancient Egypt. The plant was sacred to the Greeks and Romans. It was offered for protection and good fortune.  Rosemary, called the ‘Herb of Remembrance,’ enhances our spiritual devotion and love.

Garden Rue, the ‘Herb of Grace,’ has an herbaceous aroma that connects us with the vitality of the holy element of earth. Rue is a medicinal plant used for centuries to enhance inner vision and give protection during times of the plague. Rue, like cinnamon, warms and soothes the body by melting away energies that don’t serve us.

Cinnamon Bark is a potent, multi-sensory scent. The Egyptians have been using cinnamon since 1500 B.C. The warm glow of cinnamon transcends all space and time, transforming and attuning us with the vibration of its’ spicy heart-warming redolence.

Sacred Space Spray Practice

You may spray around your body or in your environment. Breathe into this moment offering a prayer as you prepare to mist your body and environment for purification and blessings.  As we mist, we partake of the plant’s gifts, renewing and transforming ourselves and the earth. Use this spray with the same respect you would when you are smudging with the plants.  Spray around your body, then your heart.  Closing your eyes, bring the mist up to your face with your hands and take four deep breaths. Reach your hands above your head and bring them down blessing yourself and the Mama Earth.
